Douglas Lighting Controls Opens New Office Space in Canada

January 31, 2017

Douglas Lighting Controls has opened a state-of-the-art facility in Burnaby, BC to serve as its headquarters. The new space exclusively features Douglas lighting systems throughout, as well as a number of other advanced technologies and best design practices.

The 9,500 sq. ft. office space is well suited to accommodate Douglas’ current needs and allow for anticipated future growth. Equally important, the building will enable the company to collect relevant data about how a typical modern office space is occupied and used. The workspace is designed to imitate the spaces where Douglas products are installed, and includes a separate test environment for Douglas’ latest products, including wireless controls.

Douglas headquarters will also have a dedicated demonstration area for the company to showcase the industry’s latest technological advancements, including colour change lighting, and human-centric lighting that automatically adjusts based on occupant needs.

“Unrestricted access to this type of testbed facility allows us to become more customer-centric, and develop advanced, high-quality products ahead of market demand,” says Rob Mahaffey, Director of Product Market Development at Douglas Lighting Controls. “The use of our own lighting systems in the building also ties in perfectly with our objective to enhance employees’ comfort and satisfaction, and achieve significant energy savings.”

The new building has a generous amount of glazing, ideal for testing and monitoring Douglas systems’ advanced control capabilities. A daylight harvesting function, for example, will measure the amount of natural light entering the space and automatically adjust luminary output to save energy and optimize occupant comfort. Open work areas and team break out areas also add to Douglas’ mission to create a comfortable workspace for all employees.

Nestled in a natural environment on 3.7 acres, Douglas headquarters’ strategic location on the west coast makes it a highly visible destination for local, world-class talent. The facility is located just east of downtown Vancouver at 3605 Gilmore Way.
