How the "Save On Energy Retrofit Program" is Helping Provide Instant Savings in Ontario

How Ontario Residents Can Save by Applying for Subsidies – Or by Letting Arani Do It for You!

The Save On Energy Retrofit Program allows Ontario residents to receive incentives for a variety of different energy-efficient measures. To participate, your project must be pre-approved with a minimum incentive of 500$ under streams such as; lighting, HVAC, manufacturing and other equipment.

Below this article will share some of the main details on the eligibility and how to apply for the Retrofit Program. If you prefer, Arani can do the application process for you at no cost, as this is a service they proudly provide!


Who Is Eligible?

Owners or lessees of:

  • Commercial spaces or buildings, such as offices, retail and grocery stores, restaurants, hotels, and warehouses.
  • Institutional buildings, including hospitals, universities, and municipal facilities.
  • Multi-family buildings, such as apartments (including social housing) or condominiums.
  • Agricultural facilities, including dairy, swine, and poultry farms, greenhouses, and nurseries.
  • Industrial facilities in sectors such as food / beverage, automotive, plastics, steel, mining, paper, and chemical industries.

What Types of Projects Are Eligible for Retrofit Program?

Projects that provide sustainable, measurable and verifiable reductions in electricity consumption.

Example of such projects include:

  • Lighting retrofits
  • Lighting controls
  • HVAC redesign
  • Chiller replacement
  • Variable-speed drive installations

Information Needed for Pre-Approval Application

  • Facility Type + Ownership
  • Full Address and phone number
  • Electric Utility Account Number
  • Approximate Project Estimated Start Date
  • Approximate Project Estimated End Date
  • Estimated Facility Cost Prescriptive (Prescriptive measure costs are limited to the equipment purchased and installed, labor for the installation of the equipment by suppliers, and costs to dispose of or decommission the replaced equipment.) – Please see the template
  • Have you received any other incentives for this project?
  • HST Number
  • Pictures/Scanned Documents of the Following: Project cost estimates, quotes, or proposals with model numbers and list of existing equipment

Upon Completion of the Project

Arani will log into the Save on Energy Retrofit Program portal and complete the post-project submission for this application with the following documentation:

  • Detailed itemized invoice
  • Participant Confirmation Form: Equipment Disposal and Decommissioning
  • Proof of payment, as applicable
  • Post project photographic evidence, as applicable

Post-Project Information Required

  • Project start & end date
  • Model installation
  • Facility Cost Prescriptive (Send scan documents. Prescriptive measure costs are limited to the equipment purchased and installed, labor for the installation of the equipment by suppliers, and costs to dispose of or decommission the replaced equipment.)
  • Recycling Certificate of old fixtures
