CSC LED: Case Study – Lighting the Biigtigong Nishnaabeg Arbour for Community & Culture

Located at the mouth of the Biigtig Zibi (Pic River) along the shores of Chi-Gaam (Lake Superior) near Marathon, Ontario, the Biigtigong Nishnaabeg Arbour is envisioned as a lasting community gathering place. Designed to honour tradition while creating a welcoming space for future generations, the Arbour serves as the heart of cultural celebrations, intergenerational dancing, and community events. The project was completed through a collaboration between Biigtigong Nishnaabeg, the Pic River Development Corporation, local builders, and Serino Architects, whose culturally sensitive design reflects the community’s connection to the land.

Stanpro: Lighting Project Highlight – Hemsleys Jewellers, Montréal, QC

Established in 1870 by Richard Hemsley, Hemsleys Jewellers is the oldest jewellery store in Canada. A family-owned business established over 150 years ago. Hemsleys has been serving Montreal communities for generations. It is well known within the luxury gemstone industry that lighting plays an integral role in preserving the visual authenticity of precious stones and gems. This is why most jewelers pay very special attention to each type of lighting they include in their stores and displays. The wrong color spectrum can make some stones flash while muting the color intensity of others. Having the expert knowledge and the inventory to accommodate industry-specific needs, Stanpro was mandated for Hemsleys’ newest renovations. The scope of this project included redoing the ceilings and cabinet lights while making sure to include lighting fixtures that have large color spectrums that are customizable, easy to change, and reliable.

Axis Lighting: Hagersville Library, ON – Lighting Project Highlight

The newly opened Hagersville Library + Active Living Centre brings together community, learning, and wellness within a flexible, multi-use environment. The facility includes a 3,900-sf library, 2,000 sf atrium, 840 sf program room, and a 4,855 sf multi-functional rental space designed to support a wide range of activities. Axis Lighting’s Zen series was selected to deliver clean, comfortable illumination throughout the space. Featuring SurroundLite optics, Zen provides soft, evenly diffused light with excellent glare control, enhancing visual comfort for reading, collaboration, and community use.

Once known as a stylish place for a Friday night dinner, the hotel eventually faded with time and into disrepair. Its spirit, however, lives on in this new interpretation.

Prolux Lighting & Controls: Lighting Project Highlight – The Westin Pool, Calgary

Lighting natatorium environments requires fixtures that can withstand humidity, chemicals, and demanding conditions, without compromising the architectural design of the space. For this project, the team specified the LumenWerx VIA2 Seal above the pool with a natatorium finish, designed specifically for high-moisture environments. Traditional natatorium fixtures are often large and bulky to ensure durability, but the VIA2 Seal offered a more refined solution. With its small aperture and clean profile, the fixture could be integrated directly into the wood ceiling, allowing it to visually disappear while still delivering the rugged performance required for the space. To maintain a consistent lighting language throughout the facility, the standard LumenWerx VIA2 was also used in the adjacent fitness area.
