La Berge Perron: A Redesigned Space in Harmony with Nature with Cyclone Lighting
Located along the Mille Îles river in Bois-des-Filion, La Berge Perron is a municipal park that required an upgrade to better welcome visitors. A wall was built on the embankment and the asphalt pathway running along the shore was refurbished.

The primary goal of this revitalization was to make it easier for citizens to access the river, surrounding islands, and embankment. Officials also wanted to build new installations to highlight the area’s exceptional natural beauty, thereby improving the quality of life for people living in the city and surrounding areas.

Security features that are at one with nature

“The safety of visitors was a key concern, which is why lighting was so important,” said Emmanuel Teolis, director of infrastructure and building services for the city of Bois-des-Filion. “We aimed to preserve the maritime ambiance of the site, which is why we built the dock. Plus, we wanted to maintain the authentic feel of a piece of the country in an urban area.”

Cyclone’s Retro bollards were selected due to their ability to meet the site’s specific needs. The Retro’s slim design and contemporary look added to the beauty of the park, and its soft ambient lighting was unintrusive.

Added to the aesthetics and lighting performance, the durability of the bollards ensures they’ll be illuminating La Berge Perron for years to come. Featuring a light engine conceived with fully sealed acrylic lenses, the Retro bollards are equipped to deal with the harsh Quebec winters. And tamper-proof hardware protects against vandalism, while facilitating access for maintenance.

Mission accomplished at La Berge Perron Park

Because work was being undertaken in a green space near a river, the project had to respect the environmental standards required by the municipality and government bodies, which was a challenge in and of itself, according to Emmanuel Teolis.

“We made choices that respected the site’s vocation—a true gem that provides direct access to the river and unique contact with Île Garth’s ecological reserve. For example, the pathway was made from a mix of Verrox concrete and recycled glass powder. Plus, the bollards use much less energy than street lighting.”

This project was made possible thanks to a partnership with Groupe Éco-Nature, the Ministère de l’Environnement du Québec, and the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM), without whom this project would not have seen the light of day.

La Berge Perron may well become a model of its kind, proving that it’s possible to meet the triple challenge of sustainable development, biodiversity improvement, and universal access. These ambitious objectives led to positive results, including lighting that’s making an impact.
