Woodstock the Latest Southwestern Ontario Town Considering LEDs

Woodstock

As of press time, Woodstock municipal council was still debating a proposal to convert the city’s HSP streetlights to energy-and money-saving LEDs. The proposed is spearheaded by ERTH Corporation, which has converted 26 municipalities to LED streetlights and has recently signed on their 40th municipality for conversion. The company employs 16 qualified electricians, three master electricians, three qualified linemen, and has a fleet of bucket trucks.

According to ERTH, the city will save 60% or more on its electrical bill while enjoying brighter and cleaner illumination, less street light pollution, and a 90% reduction in maintenance costs. Combining both energy and maintenance costs, the current HPS system costs $703,556, while the LED system is expected to cost $269,120. These savings reflect results already achieved in other communities. ERTHbegan in 2000 as Erie Thames Powerlines through the amalgamation of seven public utility commissions (PUCs) within the municipalities of Port Stanley, Aylmer, Belmont, Ingersoll, Thamesford, Otterville, Norwich, Burgessville, Beachville, Embro, and Tavistock. The organization continues to grow.
