Lighting Projects Earn 3 Quebec Grands Prix du Design Awards

January 21, 2019

Quebec’s design and architecture community met earlier this month for the twelfth edition of the Grands Prix du Design Award. The event showcased more than 85 prestigious projects launched in the past two years.

The prizes are awarded to designers, industrial designers, architects and landscape architects throughout Quebec, practicing in all fields of interior design, for projects realized here or abroad.

Lighting was the focus of three awards:

  • Lighting Award: Sail, Eureka Lighting (shown in photo above). With a shade made of a single piece of folded metal, Sail incorporates organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), a light source that generates high-quality natural illumination without glare. Combined with the delicate aluminum structure, it creates a soft, cozy experience, and is available in 3000K or 4000K colour temperatures with a black or white finish. Photo credit: Eureka Lighting.
  • Lighting award ex æquo: Air Canada YYZ Signature Suite. Warm tones were chosen to illuminate the lounge’s main space. Since the space has no fixed ceiling, light sources were positioned near the floor. Lighting was programmed to alter the lounge’s ambiance by time of day. Lighting design: CS Design. • Lighting award ex æquo: Translation_3 and Atomic3. The facade of the Saint-Michel library was transformed into a living tableau comprised of long lines of white light along the sides of the columns of the curtain wall. A subtle, delicate illumination that strengthens the building’s architectural proposal by emphasizing the floating effect of the curtain wall.
