LightFair has announced new safety protocols and specific mitigation measures for its 2021 staging, set for May 18 – 20, 2021 (Conference May 16 – 20) at the newly renovated Jacob K. Javits Center in New York during the citywide NYCxDesign Week. “Safer Floor, Safer Show” is LightFair’s strategic health and safety program that promotes the safety and wellbeing of all participants on the trade show floor and beyond.

“Bringing the lighting community together to share ideas and innovations that move our industry forward is central to LightFair’s vision,” said Show Director Dan Darby. “In advance of next year’s events, we are revisiting every aspect of LightFair with a ‘safety first’ lens. Working in conjunction with the Javits Center and our vendor partners, we are committed to implementing safe and smart protocols by reimagining our trade show floor, attendee experience and program design for 2021.”

The LightFair 2021 trade show floor will feature adaptions for safer product exploration. Considerations include wider aisles, one-way traffic and booth capacity limits that will allow for social distancing. Open-style booth designs are also encouraged, and hard-wall surfaces are recommended for easy maintenance and sanitation. Digital tools also will be a key element of a safer trade show floor with appointment setting available via LightFair’s mobile app and the use of electronic lead retrieval/ digital information sharing strongly encouraged. Space selection for 2021 in the updated floor plan is now open.

LightFair will follow the most updated recommendations and guidelines from the CDC, including a health screening questionnaire and temperature checks prior to entering the show and the wearing of masks while in the Center. Pre-show, online registration will allow for a contactless system where attendees can use self-serve kiosks to obtain badges. The Conference will operate with smaller class sizes and hybrid programming to allow for social distancing. Classrooms and meeting spaces will be equipped with hand sanitizing stations and arranged in safer configurations and disinfected regularly. The full Conference program and online registration information will be available later this year.

Additionally, the Javits Center has committed to best-in-class cleaning processes. The Center is working to achieve Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC) certification with cleaning and sanitizing practices in line with GBAC and CDC recommendations. It will continue to operate with higher rates of air filtration, ventilation and fresh air intake with New High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA-grade) Filters installed and maintained at all HVAC equipment. Where possible, bathrooms will be equipped with touchless soap dispensers and hand drying, and hand sanitation and washing signage reminders will be placed throughout the facility and show floor.

The full Safer Floor, Safer Show plan is available online LightFair.com. It is a living document that will be updated as needed in preparation for LightFair 2021.
