February 25, 2019

Acuity Brands, Inc. was named as a Visionary in this year’s Gartner Magic Quadrant for Indoor Location Services, Global.

The cited innovation, Atrius Software Solutions, uses technology embedded in Acuity Brands’ smart LED luminaires. The operational savings that result from replacing conventional lighting with more energy-efficient, smart LED luminaires enables customers in retail, healthcare and transportation fund visitor analytics, customer engagement, employee or customer journey-mapping and asset tracking that are available using Atrius technology.

By applying a graphical treatment and a uniform set of evaluation criteria, a Gartner Magic Quadrant study helps you quickly ascertain how well technology providers are executing their stated visions and how well they are performing against Gartner’s market view. This Gartner Magic Quadrant study evaluates the strategies and current capabilities of vendors providing indoor location services globally.

In the case of Acuity Brands’ services, indoor positioning and navigation are enabled by visible light communication and Bluetooth low energy (BLE) communication technologies embedded in the luminaire and accessed via software installed on mobile devices, while tracking and management of physical assets are enabled with tags that use BLE communication. Both signals combined provide the ability to transmit data over extended distances in addition to communicating with the sensors. Acuity Brands works with its Fortune 500 customers to develop solutions, ensuring the Atrius Software Solutions and supporting products evolve to support customer-specific requirements.

“Acuity Brands has been laying the groundwork for this innovation through research and development and acquisitions over the past decade,” says Greg Carter, Senior Vice President Connected Building Software for Acuity Brands Lighting. “We are fully committed to expanding the capabilities of our scalable solution and are excited about our position as a Visionary on the quadrant in this market.”

Atrius solutions are available for big box retail, grocery, aviation, healthcare, office and other buildings and spaces. By leveraging the data analytics and insights garnered from operation of a space, Acuity Brands’ technologies can deliver benefits to improve performance. Building performance improvements include energy savings that can be realized from Acuity Brands’ solutions that manage and integrate HVAC, lighting control systems and LED luminaires. Business improvements include enhanced space utilization and asset tracking, while also offering occupants more direct control over their office environments.
