More Visible Crosswalk Lights Installed in Halifax as Part of Pilot Project

New crosslights have been put in place at four locations in the Halifax Regional Municipality in hopes of reminding drivers to take caution when approaching crosswalks.

The new lights, which are part of a pilot program to test a new type of crosswalk treatment, are activated by pedestrians and placed at either end of marked crosswalks just above the crosswalk signs.

Brighter than previous models, the lights operate in a strobe pattern — also known as rectangular, rapid-flashing beacons — which is expected to make them more visible to drivers when activated, in addition to being installed lower to the ground.
