LED Streetlights Thorold ON

This year the two communities in Central and southern Ontario are investing almost $6 million to convert 13,000 streetlights to LEDs. The conversation will offer significant savings in maintenance costs and power.Barrie’s replacement of 11,000 lamps is expected to reduce maintenance costs by 80% and energy usage by 67% over the LEDs’ 10-year warranty period. The city estimates energy savings at 5,423,256 kWh annually. Thorold’s replacement of 2,000 lamps is expected to cut costs by 80% and 60%, respectively. Thorold now spends $240,000 and $50,000 each year on power and maintenance.

To make the switch, both communities are receiving financial incentives from the Ontario Power Authority.
