DLC Publishes Networked Lighting Control Technical Requirements 3.0

LDS 22 CS DLC 400

November 7, 2018

DesignLights Consortium recently updated its technical requirements for networked lighting control systems to qualify for listing in the organization’s Qualified Products List for Networked Lighting Control Systems, which is used by a growing number of utilities to qualify products for rebates promoting this technology.

Networked Lighting Control Technical Requirements 3.0 adds scene control as a reported capability of indoor and outdoor systems. It also identifies cybersecurity compliance with ANSI UL 2900-1, IEC, ISO 27000, and NIST standards.

Scope of technical requirements

These are requirements for interior and exterior networked lighting control (NLC) systems associated with commercial and industrial buildings, roadways, and exterior environments. NLC systems are defined for the purposes of these requirements as the combination of sensors, network interfaces, and controllers that effects lighting changes to luminaires, but does not include the luminaires themselves. Any luminaire-specific control requirements are addressed separately by the DLC’s Solid-State Lighting Technical Requirements (www.designlights.org/solid-state-lighting/qualification-requirements/) and Qualified Products List (www.designlights.org/search).

This revision of this technical requirements document is the first one to accept DC and PoE networked lighting control systems in conjunction with the SSL Luminaire DC and PoE Policy to be released in September 2018. Please note that while the DLC will accept and begin processing DC and PoE based NLC applications beginning in June 2018, to avoid confusion with rebate/incentive programs, the DLC will not publicly qualify and list DC/PoE control systems until the corresponding SSL application process is available.
