Eureka Lighting Wins Four Red Dot Awards

LDS Eureka red dot 400

May 5, 2021

Eureka has announced its Outline, Knit, Expo, and Mill luminaires have received 2021 Red Dot Awards for Product Design. It is the seventh year in a row that Eureka products have been honored with this prestigious award, but it is the first time the company has received four awards in a single year. Eureka has now won a total of 16 Red Dot Awards.

Dating back to 1955, Red Dot Awards is one of the world’s largest and most distinguished design competitions, with more than 18,000 entries. The distinction “Red Dot” has become established internationally as one of the most sought-after seals of quality for good design. The jury comprises over 50 international experts, who convene once a year to test, discuss and evaluate each entry individually. Jurors scrutinize the products in a process that spans several days and are guided by assessment criteria such as the product’s formal quality, ergonomics and longevity. Whether aesthetically pleasing, functional, smart, or innovative, the award-winning products all share one thing in common: outstanding design quality.

Outline is a range of luminaires with a modern aesthetic. Challenging traditional notions of projector-type lighting design, Outline’s innovative optics represent a leap in lens design. With recessed, surface, and suspended mounting iterations, as well as various head number and arrangement options, Outline enables a design theme to be carried anywhere throughout a project. Outline can be used in offices in different ways to accentuate modern work environments while maintaining commonality of design purpose.

Knit luminaires feature a thermoformed shade made from sound-absorbing recycled PET felt that increases acoustic comfort in a space. The pendant is intended for areas where noise is a concern, including high or unfinished ceilings, open offices, or corridors with a hard floor finish. Its design also integrates a distinctive power cord that extends from the fixture’s upper side for a truly unique look.

Expo takes tube lighting beyond the basics. The luminaire is designed for flexible installation in a wall or ceiling surface mount, in any orientation, or in suspension. Its simple minimalist shape opens the door to a variety of standard applications, such as bathrooms, corridors or transitional spaces. As a single pendant, Expo can provide light above a desk or a table in a conference room. And because it can be suspended at angles up to 45 degrees, Expo empowers designers to create lines of light that can be crisscrossed or zigzagged through a ceiling space.

Mill is a range of acoustic luminaires designed to absorb sound and reduce ambient noise in modern spaces with high ceilings or hard surfaces. Fifteen felt blades create a cylindrical shape, which traps and absorbs sound within the luminaire’s hollow column. With four standard acoustic material colors and 26 premium options, designers can add bursts of bright color to bring life to a space or choose a more neutral palette for a conservative or subtle look.

All four luminaires will be presented in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, an online presentation, and the Red Dot Design Yearbook.
