July 16, 2019

Luminaries of the lighting profession gathered at the elegant Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia, PA on 22 May to honor the winners of the 36th Annual International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) International Lighting Design Awards. Twenty-three projects from 12 countries were on display—including exteriors, interiors, workspaces, museums, hospitality sites and a place of worship. This year’s winners represent some of the most innovative and inspiring architectural lighting design work found anywhere in the world.

Of the 23 projects recognized, 11 earned Awards of Excellence and 12 earned Awards of Merit. The highest point score winner across all entries, in addition to receiving an Award of Excellence for their project, received the IALD Radiance Award for Excellence in Lighting Design. From the 11 possible recipients, the winner of this award was unveiled during the awards ceremony in Philadelphia.

Accepting the IALD Radiance Award for Excellence in Lighting Design were Ben Ferrisand Graham Rollins, the project team from Lighting Design International for the Kimpton Fitzroy in London, England UK.
IALD Awards Chair Morgan Gabler, IALD, commented, “This year was exceptional in both the caliber of all the projects we reviewed, as well as the increase in awards submitted from designers around the world. The lighting design award entries showcase an ever-increasing level of creativity, design and sophisticated application of light. IALD Awards recognize award-winning projects that go beyond distinction in architectural lighting—they evoke emotional responses, engage their communities and inspire awe. We are excited to celebrate and honor all the 2019 award winners.”
