DLC Clarifying Eligibility for Horticultural Lighting Fixtures

March 16, 2018

The DesignLights Consortium (DLC) is in the process of developing a specification for horticultural lighting products, the first draft of which could be published next month.

The DLC has recently undertaken a review of products listed on the SSL QPL in the High Bay category. As a result, DLC learned that several listed products listed are either marketed and sold as horticultural lighting fixtures, or were submitted as horticultural lighting fixtures have been misrepresented on the QPL. Since the review, the DLC has updated its eligibility policy to exclude any product for which the intended use is a horticultural application, and have de-listed any products affected by this clarification.

Until this specification is finalized, any product marketed for horticultural applications is explicitly ineligible for listing on the QPL.

The DLC qualifies commercial LED luminaires, retrofit kits, linear replacement lamps, mogul (E39) screw-base replacement lamps, and four pin-base replacement lamps for CFLs for inclusion in DLC Members’ energy efficiency rebate and incentive programs.
