SCC Strengthens Cooperation with Standardization Administration of ChinaThe Standards Council of Canada (SCC) has signed a renewed cooperation arrangement with the Standardization Administration of China (SAC) — paving the way for enhanced collaboration in standardization.

Minister Zhi Shuping of China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), and SCC Chief Executive Officer, John Walter, recently signed the Cooperation Arrangement in Ottawa. Minister Zhi Shuping was part of a delegation accompanying Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to meet with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other senior officials to promote strong, stable ties between Canada and China.

“This cooperation arrangement is imperative to improving market access opportunities for Canadian and Chinese businesses, and will further strengthen cooperation on the development of standards in areas of mutual benefit, including those for innovative technologies,” said Mr. Walter.

“Two-way trade between Canada and China amounted to nearly $85.8 billion in 2015. The signing of the Cooperation Arrangement on standardization will support and strengthen our trade relationship. Reinforcing this arrangement will further promote the development of trade between China and Canada,” noted Minister Zhi Shuping.
