GVA’s New NoFrills Lighting Project in Komoka, Ontario Offers Bold Colour, Cleaner Geometry & Visual Confidence

NoFrills is one of Canada’s major grocery store chains, known for its affordable price and direct retail approach. The company operates under Loblaw Companies Limited, Canada’s largest food and pharmacy retailer.

When NoFrills opened its new location in Komoka, Ontario, the store made an immediate impression. The new architecture and exterior design caught the community’s attention right away. Bold colour, cleaner geometry, and a visual confidence that felt fresh against the familiar brand generated genuine excitement from shoppers and residents alike.

The Store

The new design is built on honest materiality and a focused palette. A look like this demands equally considered lighting. The new lighting system is a perfect complement that brings the new exterior to life both during the day and after dark.

GVA’s STR10 GEN2 MONO in 3000K is chosen to bring the entrance façade to life. Complementing the all-new visual design language, the engineers arranged 27 luminaires into lighting runs totalling approx. 38m / 124 ft, creating a subtle washing effect with warm, great quality light that follows the geometry of the ceiling.

The Komoka store is a demonstration that thoughtful lighting specification can transform the character of a retail environment. For a brand whose identity is built on stripping away the unnecessary, the result is a subtle elegance that resonates well beyond the neighbourhood.
