SPIE: 3D Printing for Lighting Conference

May 16, 2023

SPIE Optics + Photonics
August 22-23, 2023 – San Diego, CA

The Lighting Research Center has initiated the first 3D Printing for Lighting Conference, SPIE Optics + Photonics, to explore additive manufacturing and 3D printing for the lighting industry.

Presentations From:
What is the purpose of this conference?

The purpose of this conference is to bring forth new ideas and research in the growing field of 3D printing for lighting and to bring awareness to a larger audience of the possibilities and benefits that 3D printing holds for lighting component and system manufacturing. Our goal is to prompt new research that is needed to help transform 3D printing from a niche manufacturing activity to a full-scale manufacturing mode in the lighting industry.

What types of research will be included at the conference?

The conference program consists of technical presentations in the areas of printing methods, materials, machines, and performance testing as they apply to lighting systems and technology, including thermal, mechanical, and optical components. Session topics include:

  • Overview and Opportunities for 3D Printing for Lighting
  • 3D-Printed Lighting Systems
  • 3D-Printed Optics and Characterization
  • Lighting Layout, Optics Design, Print Optimization and Characterization
  • 3D-Printed Thermomechanical Components
  • 3D-Printed Electronics

Additionally, a special evening event will be held on Tuesday, August 22 to discuss the evolution and forward momentum of 3D printing as one of the key drivers in transforming the lighting supply chain. Participants will discuss how the future of the lighting industry can be shaped by 3D printing and how to define a roadmap for this transformation.
