LAMP Design Competition Call for Entries

LAMP Design Competition Call for Entries

April 12, 2017

In preparation for its fifth competition and exhibition, LAMP has released its theme, eligibility criteria, and timelines.

LAMP aims to introduce a broader audience to lighting design while promoting and connecting emerging talents to new markets. Each year the competition challenges designers to approach their lighting fixtures with the guidance of a theme.

Competition finalists from around the world are showcased at the LAMP opening reception in Vancouver, BC. Shown in photo: a finalist from a previous competition.

New this year: LAMP has extended the overall timeframe, evolving from an annual to biannual competition and event. This will provide designers with time to fully execute their designs and prototypes for the entry deadline and exhibition, says LAMP. See the timelines below.

The theme for this year’s competition is balance. There are three categories:

  • Established — entrant’s business or professional design career has been active for a minimum of 3 years
  • Emerging — entrant has launched their business or professional career within the last 3 years. Entrant must not be enrolled in any post-secondary design program
  • Student — entrant must currently be enrolled in a post-secondary design program at time of submission

2017 timeline

  • May 1 — judges and prizes announced
  • June 1 — submissions open
  • December 15 — final submissions deadline

2018 timeline

  • January 1 — prototype images submitted to confirm completion
  • January 2 — judging commences
