Fundamentals of Lighting Course: Registration Open in Vancouver and Victoria

September 20, 2018

Fundamentals of Lighting (FOL) is a seven-module investigation of light and lighting, intended to provide basic knowledge for any interested individual. As such, it will provide enough depth for basic understanding while attempting to cover the most significant areas within the field of study. A list of topics covered appears below.

To be more environmentally and fiscally responsible, the BC Section of the IES has changed how it provides course material. Participants will now receive PDF versions of the course material, which will require the FILEOPEN application and an electronic device (e.g., laptop, Surface Pro, IPad, etc.) to use in class. FILEOPEN works on Windows based products, Macintosh, IOS platforms and Android devices. IESBC  can provide a printed version of the course material but will charge an extra $85 and must be advised at least two weeks before the first day of class (no later than September 28, 2018).

Topics covered include:

  • basic lighting concepts, vision and colour
  • electric light sources, ballasts and drivers
