NEMA Releases Revised Roadway Lighting Standard

February 11, 2019

The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) has published ANSI C136.2-2018 American National Standard for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment — Dielectric Withstand and Electrical Transient Immunity Requirements.

“C136.2 contains minimum performance requirements and test procedures for evaluating luminaire and control devices under test (DUTs) for dielectric withstand and electrical transient immunity,” explains Kevin Fitzmaurice, Principal, Lighting & Smart Services, Georgia Power and Chair of ANSI Committee for Outdoor Lighting (C136). “This revision contains corrections to the electrical fast transient (EFT) test specification.”

Developed by the ANSI Committee for Outdoor Lighting, ANSI C136.2-2018 covers luminaires and control devices classified for up to 600 V operation and is intended for use in roadway and area lighting applications.

ANSI C136.2-2018 is available in hard copy or as an electronic download for US$46 on the NEMA website: www.nema.org/Standards/Pages/American-National-Standard-for-Roadway-and-Area-Lighting-Equipment-Dielectric-Withstand-and-Electrical-Transient-Immunity.aspx

The ANSI Accredited Standards Committee (ASC) C136 for Roadway and Area Lighting Equipment is currently seeking interested members, particularly in the underrepresented categories of End User and General Interest.
