GE Current Begins Move to New Headquarters

After leaving the historic Nela Park campus where it basically came into being, GE Current, a Daintree company, recently announced its new headquarters will be in the nearby city of Beachwood. There are other changes too, as Current embraces the hybrid-work model that so many companies have adopted post-pandemic. As a result, the new headquarters is reportedly being designed as “a place for collaboration and innovation.”

According to news reports, Current will use roughly 32,000 square feet of the 42,000-sq.-ft. space as corporate offices, and the remaining 10,000 square feet as lab space. The Plain Dealer reported that roughly 100 employees from Current will move to the new offices in Beachwood. Approximately 12 lab workers will remain at Nela Park.

“Beachwood is the perfect location for this next chapter at Current, with a continued focus on serving our customers,” said CEO Manish Bhandari. “The move from historic Nela Park is not one we take lightly, but the time is right to transition our space to accommodate our new work practices.”

“Our new office will be designed to enable creativity and teaming, ensuring natural light, access to fresh air and healthy movement. We will have the benefit of outdoor space, which improves employee concentration and focus,” said Current’s Chief People Officer Courtney Abraham. “Our goal is to create a collaborative center that balances the need for quiet workspace, community building and moments of inspiration.”

Current chose Beachwood in part because of its central location, aimingGECurrentribbon 400x275 to reduce commutes for its workforce and the associated impact on the environment. Employees will also be able to take advantage of the Beachwood area’s easy access to restaurants, shops, health and wellness centers, and other lifestyle services. Additionally, remaining in Greater Cleveland was critical, as the company believes the talent and resources in the area allow Current to continue to grow and innovate.

“We are excited for Current to join the many other corporations positioned well in Beachwood. It is a point of pride for us to lay claim to having an international leader in lighting and controls within our borders. Current carries the legacy of one of the world’s most recognized business names and has a reputation as a leader in the lighting and controls industry. We welcome all of its employees and hope they take advantage of the ample amenities our community has to offer,” said Mayor Justin Berns of the City of Beachwood.

This announcement is the latest in a series of significant investments Current is making to build a more agile business to better serve customers and partners. The company has recently acquired Hubbell’s C&I Lighting business, opened two new distribution centers, and a new multimillion-dollar training facility at its intelligent factory in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Current’s Beachwood offices will be located at 25825 Science Park Drive. The company expects the move to be completed soon.
