LightFair will take place during New York City’s annual celebration of design, NYCxDESIGN, in 2021. The world’s largest annual architectural and commercial lighting tradeshow and conference will be located at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, reports Show Director Dan Darby together with Timothy Licitra, executive director of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and Marsha L. Turner, chief executive officer of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). The location places it alongside international high-end and contemporary furnishings tradeshow ICFF for its five-day conference and three-day tradeshow.

“LightFair showcases the intersection of innovations in lighting, design and technology, so alignment with NYCxDESIGN is a natural fit,” said Darby. “The tradeshow will present forward-thinking, design-driven lighting manufacturers to the global design community and the conference will bring a new element to NYCxDESIGN’s coterie of thought leader events and presentations. It is an unmatched opportunity for our 500+ exhibitors and 175+ speakers to connect with the tens of thousands of designers and students that make up the New York design community during its most important time of the year.”

LightFair was last staged in New York in 2015 when it set records in tradeshow size and attendance. Its last two East Coast stagings in 2017 and 2019 in Philadelphia also saw strong shows and attendance supported by the city’s continuing emergence as a center of design, architecture and innovation. LightFair also benefited significantly from strong partnerships with the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, the city’s collaborative hotel community, and the team at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, who delivered outstanding customer service.

“LightFair would like to acknowledge and thank the Philadelphia team for helping to grow the show,” noted Darby.

LightFair is staged alternately on the U.S. East and West coasts and returns to the Las Vegas Convention Center May 3-7, 2020.

Alignment with NYCxDESIGN and ICFF continues LightFair’s reimagining of the attendee experience which sees new programming and amenities plus a new tradeshow layout and streamlined conference debuting in 2020. The estimated 300,000 NYCxDESIGN attendees and the 52,000 designers, 8,000 firms and thousands of students from top design and architecture schools in the New York design community will have access to both the LightFair and ICFF tradeshow floors plus additional events taking place across the five boroughs.

“Co-locating ICFF and LightFair adds amazing value for exhibitors and attendees,” adds Darby. “Together we present total resources for designers. Through LightFair they can source technologically advanced and design-driven lighting to complement the avant-garde and contemporary furnishings presented by ICFF. This collaboration is set to be a highlight of an already exciting time in New York City.”

Leasing for LightFair 2021 will begin in mid-2020 and attendee registration will open in early 2021.
