Explosion-proof lighting or hazardous locations luminaires are used in environments where flammable gases or combustible dusts exist. These special lights have to be tested and approved by strict regulations in different regions.

In North American regions, UL844 is the official approval for these explosion-proof lights, under UL844 regulations, different hazardous locations are defined by Class and Division systems like Class I Division 1 or Class I Division 2, Class II Division 1 or Class II Division 2. While in European regions, ATEX or IECEx is officially required certificate, different hazardous locations usually defined as different zones like Gas environment can be divided into zone 0, zone 1 and zone 2,
