March 20: IES Toronto Technical Luncheon

March 6, 2019

Sooner or later it gets dark outside… and that means the visual success of your projects needs a great lighting design. Learn how to successfully identify and apply a nature-inspired layered approach to lighting commercial spaces informed by best practices and the recommendations of the illuminating Engineering Society. Case studies from the private office to medical practice and from church to restaurant will reveal when to draw on a sunny day for artificial lighting design and when to look for inspiration.

Presenter David K. Warfel is an educator, author, and lighting designer practicing in architecture, light, and experience design. Formerly the chair of theatrical lighting design programs the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Illinois State University, David teaches regular continuing education seminars in lighting design, offers full-day immersive training experiences, and has presented at LDI, USITT and AASHE conferences. David writes regularly for Houzz.com and has been featured in Fine Homebuilding, Lighting Australia, Lighting & Sound America, Live Design, and Theatrical Design & Technology. His work has been featured at New York’s Carnegie Hall, Las Vegas’ Rio, MGM Grand, and Luxor Casinos, Chicago’s Hyde Park Arts Center, Museum of Science and Industry, and Organic Theatre Company, Royal Caribbean cruise ships, and more architectural and residential projects in a dozen states. He works with award-winning lighting design firm Schuler Shook and blogs at www.languageoflight.blog.
