November 16: Zen and the Art of Lighting Design

October 30, 2018

Attend this Philips Lighting University webinar to gain a holistic design approach and thinking beyond a project’s technical needs.

Presenter Peter A. Hugh has been practicing architectural lighting design for over 30 years. An award-winning designer, he founded Hugh Lighting Design, LLC on the belief and philosophical conviction of a lighting firm based on providing creative, dynamic spaces grounded within realities of project run disciplines and attentiveness to lighting of spaces for people and their emotional ties to the space. He is actively involved with the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America. He currently serves as Chair of the Light+Design committee and Vice Chair for the Hospitality Committee, and is also on the Marks Committee. Hugh is also a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers.

Key learnings include the following:

  • new ways to think about spaces beyond the technical and/or psychological needs
  • how to better individualize approaches to project design and work within a greater new philosophical norm.
  • how the technical aspects of design should support a holistic design approach, not predicate it (cart before the horse design).
  • the role of an emotional state within a space, and how it can work to reduce energy usage while creating better spaces.
